DANCE

TRADITIONAL

Aboriginal people learn traditional dancing through ceremony. Stories, songs and dances are all an important part of Aboriginal culture. There may be a special custodian of a particular story which also has an associated dance and song. That custodian is the one who is then allowed to tell the story and teach the song and dance to others.

One of the special dances of the Barunga area is the White Cockatoo Dance. This dance can be performed by several clan groups together, including clan groups from the Barunga, Beswick, Manyalluluk and Bulman areas.

At the Opening Ceremony of this year's Barunga Festival, on June 6th at 11am, members from these communities will dance the White Cockatoo Dance which has been taught to them thier traditional custodian.

MODERN

So you think you can dance? Come and see your future compeitition at the Barunga Festival.

Modern dance is a great way of celebrating community living and a good opportunity for people of varied backgrounds to come together at the Barunga Festival.

Each year there is a disco dance-off with a significant cash prize!
