  Traditional Dance

DANCE - Traditional

The traditional dance is a very special event at the festival. Traditional dance is coupled and interwined with the Jawoyn people's culture and ancestors. Dances are ingrained with meaning, and are representative of the community's belief's and stories. With no written records, dances were a way in which indigenous communities passed down their stories and history to younger generations. The dances are often reflective of different animals with special significance to the Dreaming, or the surrounds of the community. Aboriginal law was also outlined and administered through dance.

Traditional dancing is spectacular and hugely entertaining. During the festival, the Jawoyn people will even encourage spectators to join in and dance with the community. This is a very rare opportunity for visitors to connect with the oldest Australians.
