Spear throwing is not only a very exciting sport and activity, but also a very special event at the festival. It links the modern jawoyn people to their ancestry and history. In days of yore, spear throwing was not regarded as a sport or activity, but rather as a necessity of daily life. It is especially enjoyed by the elders of the jawoyn communities.

Competitors firstly make their own spear. Then, they must hit a target in the shape of a kangaroo that is 100m away! Whilst visitors are encouraged to have a go, they should be warned that the jawoyn people will hold the advantage, as their spear designs and throwing techniques have been sharpened and honed over many centuries.

Huge crowds are again expected to line cultural park, but onlookers are reminded to keep a constant look out!
